New Kids On The Block breaking was so hard for Joe. After that Joe took a time to rest; and when he came back to the show business he did it acting. Although he never left music so faraway. He worked in theater and musical plays with some of his brothers and sisters; but his big acting projects were two. First he filmed at the beginning of 95 The Fantasticks, a comedy based on a Broadway play. Joe was the main actor and he, of course, sang a lot in the movie. The date of the movie premiere began to be delated and finally was decided to release it just on videotape. It was a riscky movie `cause this kind of movies are practically dead at the present time; and finally its distribution was suspended indefinitelly. Anyway it seemed that everythig started again on September 2000. |

The Fantasticks was showed in the largest American cities. This is the only country where the movie has been seen. The movie is already released in video and DVD, of course in USA and by Internet but just in American system (NTSC). In the summer of the same year Joe did his second great acting project. This time he worked on theater. Barking Sharks, released by Gloucester Stage Company. Gloucester is a town near Boston; so Joe could drive there everyday. As the place was near Boston all the fans that were that summer visiting the city could enjoy Joe´s play. So as you can imagine the play was sold out everyday. Joe was the main actor and his role was Eddie, a youth spoiled man of NY that had to move with his family to Gloucester (a little fishermen town). Joe had again the chance to sing a little and also he recited in French. After his adventures in the acting world, perhaps disappointed for what happened with The Fantasticks, he was apart of the show world for two years. `Till he began in 1997 to prepare his solo album. After signing with Jhonny Right (the manager of groups like BSB or *NSYNC) Joe appeared in several musical events. The songs of the album that he prepared first were Frank Sinatra style, who had always been his idol. But after show these material to the exmember of the group, Donnie Wahlberg, Joe left this idea. He decided to make one album much more current. This time he wrote most of the songs himself with some help in a pair of songs from Donnie and also the exmember of NKOTB Danny Wood. But the problems started when he wanted to produce the record `cause any record company didn’t want to produce his work. Then was when Joe and his new manager (he broked up with Jhonny Right) Jerry Jaffe decided to build a web site were they would show to Joe´s fans his new work. He wanted his fans to tell him what they thought about his new work while they searched for a record company. But they didn’t have success in their record company search. So Joe decided to produce the album himself. At the end of 98 he sold out by Internet the only two thousand copies of his album that he had offered. Obviously the two thousand copies weren´t enought for all the fans that were waiting more than four years for any album from anyone of the members of the group. Then was when record companies started to be interested in Joe and his work and finally Stay the Same , that was the name of Joe’s first solo album, was released at the beginning of 1999. CBS was the company that finally released Joe´s album but they decided to make it with the name of Joey McIntyre. In 98-99 Christmas Joe did some shows in Boston and other Masachussetts near towns with sold out tickets. During the first half of 99 Joe traveled around the world with the record promotion. It was a very strange promotion because, almost in Europe, the company wanted that Joe´s visits were top secret: they wanted to introduce him to a new public. But they weren´t so much successful, almost in some countries like Spain where there were more than one hundred New kids´fans waiting for Joe at the airport. At the beginning and end of summer (he made a break for the Asian promotion) Joe did a tour in small locals around the States with enough success. Stay The Same was one of the best sellers singles of the year. Joe received the Boston Music Award to The best song of the year for Stay The Same and the following year to The best video for I love you came too late. Joe hosted the TV Show: Say What?, on MTV; at the same time he was working in his second solo album that was released in The States on May 15t, 2001 . For this second work Joe decided to change the record company and he signed with Q Records. According to his words he decided this change because "Sony is a very big company with many artists and they didn't give him enough attention and support". Q Records was a new company that wasn´t working with big stars but they had a great economical power and there Joe would had more freedom to take his own decissions. But finally Q Records wasn’t what Joe expected and he left the company. Joe was so busy at summer time with Meet Joe Mac promotion. After that Joe played the off Broadway musical "Tick, Tick Boom". He even traveled with it to Korea. On Apryl 2002 Joe was the host of Boston Music Awardas he also performed there some songs from his last solo albumy. That month he made two shows in NY with Eman (the co-writer of his album Meet Joe Mac). In those shows was recorded Joe´s new live CD "One too many", you could get it trought his web site. Or in stores in USA. That summer Joe made a tour over USA called: "A One Man Show With Two People Starring Joe Mac and Eman" This tour ended at the end of Juny in Boston. In August Joe was going to make a play on town near Boston. But finally it wasn´t possible as he traveled to LA to tape the upcoming season of tv serie: Boston Public. The serie happened in Boston´s high school and Joe´s role was a teacher. The premiere of the serie was. At the begining Joe was going to be just in the first 4 episodies, but his role was very welcome and finally he was on the whole season. Also Joe was working with Eman on his next album while he was negociating with a new record label for a overseas release. In 2003 Joe came back to his role on the play Tick, tick, boom that was represented in Boston at the beginning of June. During the month of July Joe was filming the movie Tony and tina´s wedding in NYC. In September he represented the play "Reprise Musical! Babes in Arms" at Macgowan Hall Freus Playhouse (UCLA). He’s been living in LA since he moved there to do Boston Public. January 2004 was the first time Kiss FM LA played "LA Blue". It was the first single for Joe’s new album called 809. Joe promoted the album at radio stations and annunced he had signed with Artemis records. 809 was finally released in USA April 27th, 2004. Joe was in May at the "Tribeca Film Festival" for the premiere of his film "Tony and Tina´s wedding" that was shooted in the streets of Tribeca. On July 20th, 2004 Joe began to represent the Broadway's musical "Wicked" (number one for a long time). His role this time was "Fiyero". Joe was busy with the musical until January 9th, 2005. During this time he continued the promo for his album 809. It was released in different European countries, between them Spain. He gave a big surprise to all his fans when he announced in May, 2005 that he would take part of the cast of a new television program in ABC: Dancing with the Stars. In every program Joe had to prepare a choreography together with his partner (professional dancer) Ashley del Grosso. It was one of Joe's best appearances in television. Becasue the fans could enjoy Joe's skills in the dancing floor for several weeks. And in The States it gave him many popularity since the program was enjoying many hearing. Finally Joe was eliminated on the verge of the final. During a while he remained more calmed though he did not neglect his fans doing some concerts in LA and two performances in August, 2005 in London. In addition he wrote a column assiduous in the magazine Boston Common and appeared on the small screen with small roles as the technician of photocopiers in " Less than Perfect " or his participation in "Love Inc". He had then some projects in mind but finally decided to come back to a theatre stage. It was at the Falcon Theatre of Los Angeles and the play was "Happy Days". Wich he did from February 24th until March 12th, 2006. A few months later Joe came back to Boston to shoot "On Broadway" under Dave McLaughlin's direction and with actors as Eliza Dushku and Robert Wahlberg. Several scenes of the movie were filmed in emblematic places as the Boston Public Library or Jamaica Plain. His return to LA was also the return of Fonzie, the character that he did in the musical Happy Days once again from June 23th to July 23th 2006. In September 2006 new times were ahead for Joe. It all started with a new website: www.officialjoeymcintyre.com, and there was more to come: in November he confirmed he was going to take part with other celebrities in a tour that would cross the whole country: Dancing with the Stars Tour. In every show Joe had some dances remembering his time at the TV program. He also was able to sign two songs from his new album: Talk to me. This new album has 11 versions of classics of Frank Sinatra songs. An album like this had always been Joe's dream since he was a child. And finally this dream come true. Joe also traveled the USA with his Talk to me tour. And in April 26th 2007 he attended the world premiere of his film On Broadway at the Independent Film Festival of Boston. Then he decided to come back to a new Dancing with the Stars Tour. In 2008 he returned to the stage again and to the press around the world with the reunion of NKOTB. After a year and a half of promotion, worldwide tours, new album, new videos ... the guys took a break. And Joe also took this break time to compose new music and to collaborate with other artists such as the group Varsity. After that Joe renewed his website (now, joeymcintyre.com) with new pictures and information of what it was going to be his new solo album, that was the start of a new step on his solo career. In October 22nd,, 2009 Joe filmed the video clip of his first single "Here we go again" and announced that the new recod will be an EP with 7 songs. On November 6th Donnie made the world premier of this single at Chum FM in Canada. But we really could have "Here we go again" in Novebember 16th when it was abaliable on Itunes. That same day People.com made the premiere of the video clip, where we could see a very sugestive and sexy Joe. At the begining of the December the MACPAC 3000 (that include the fisical CD and some gifts stuff) become on sale. A littel after the EP was abaliable on Itunes. And finally after a benefic concert for children with New kids on the Block in December, he started a month tour in Canada-USA in January 2010.With this new album Joe wanted to make a change, the sound is different of what he did before, (specially different of his last album before that one "Talk to me"). The sound of this album as Joe´s himselve descrived it is "mix of rock and hip-hop infused dance tracks" . It´s and album full of energy!!!! A part of this profesional work Joe has been envolved in a different project during New Kids on the Block´s reunion. Probably the fact of become a dad is the reason why he created a new foundation. This foundation try to help all children to have access to books to encourage children's reading. On the website of the Foundation LET´S GET THIS, you will find all the information to work along, pictures and videos of Joe himself with his son Griffin encouraging people to collaborate. |
